QT @ Houston Quilt Market Recap #1

We’re back!  What a whirlwind!  Every year, summer ends and the anticipation of Quilt Market sets in,  and then POOF…it’s over!  We have two of these trade shows per year and this is our opportunity to share our newest fabric lines with shop owners, pattern makers, magazine editors, etc., etc.  It’s a great way to share our excitement for our upcoming collections!  Since this is an industry event, we wanted to share some of the experience of Market with you.

We had our main QT booth and also a booth dedicated to our Antiquities fabric brand.

First up, here’s our “Sneak Peek”  it’s a little display at the front of the convention center giving shops a peek of what they will find in the booth.  This year, we decided to have fun with yo-yos!  Who doesn’t love a fabric yo-yo?!?!?!?

For the QT display, we featured “Bleecker Street”, a lovely little floral group featuring pretty and petite flower prints to brighten your day!  Just imagine riding your vintage bike down a cobblestone street in your favorite A-line skirt and kitten heels to grab a mochaccino with the girls!  This group coming to your favorite quilt shop in December!

From Sneak Peek to booth – here’s a few photos of the Bleecker Street display!

Sigh… just lovely… we will talk more about this fantastic collection and our collaboration with Wendy Sheppard of Ivory Springs.  She’s one of our favorite designers who also collaborates with Aurifil!  You won’t want to miss that!!!

Loving the pops of color and the geometric feel of these quilts & apparel.

Another important part of Quilt Market are the “Schoolhouse” events.  These classes present different topics to educate attendees on everything from using a new technique to building their business.   We were proud to offer our Schoolhouse, “I Don’t Sew, I Quilt”  which was in reference to the many shop owners who are die-hard quilting fans and, as a result,  may be missing out on capturing the sewing/diy-ing/crafting markets.  People love fabric and not just for quilting!   Our Creative Manager, Cyndi Hershey, and Regional Sales Manager, Sarah Maylath presented ideas on how to engage different types of sewists and quilters with fun projects, patterns and ideas.  It was a great way to share some of our ideas and experience!

Attendees received a bag including a binder with class information and a selection of goodies!

Continuing the yo-yo theme, we had Yo-Yo Plinko!  Our Master of Ceremonies, Brian (aka, Marketing Brand Manager extraordinaire) brought the fun to quilt market with our game and great prizes.  We always like to share a little something with our shop friends who come to see our newest lines.  They had a chance to win fat quarter bundles, strip rolls, merchandise discounts etc., etc.

Of course, we cannot forget our friends who also had booths at Market.  We wanted to be sure to shout out to them!

Our designers, Desiree Habicht and Janet Wecker-Frisch both had their own booths at Market and we displayed these panels in our QT booth to show off their newest lines!

There you have your first look at Market.  So exciting for us to see everything come together.   Next week, we’ll show you our other booth, Antiquities.

COLOR – Lovely, vibrant, dazzling & wonderful color…

One of my favorite things, besides fabric (of course) and print/pattern (of course) is color.

I LOVE COLOR!

I remember opening up my new crayon box and sitting there studying the crayons as if they were color chips.  I didn’t dare use my favorite colors, and, ummmm, every color was my favorite!  🙂 Fortunately,  I was lucky enough to have multiple sets of crayons.  There was one that was dedicated for “show only”.     Kind of like your mom’s “good scissors” that were only for fabric.  I still think twice before using my scissors – every time!!!

Things haven’t changed much, I still love staring at color and I found my niche working here!  I’m so lucky!

So…when I saw this collection of “basics” or “blenders” by Dan Morris, I immediately fell in love.  This is my visual Ode to Scrollscapes and I hope you enjoy it!

This is my favorite color from Scrollscapes, Teal!  It’s so pretty!!!

Showing the full width of the fabric and it’s repeat. Measures approximately 44″ x 24″ from selvedge to selvedge.

Below, I took samples from the fabric to show the variations within the selvedge to selvedge repeat! So many great options.  It’s really a bunch of fabrics in one!

5″ Sections from the repeat of the fabric… pretty fabulous!

I’ll be back next week to talk a little more about colors, color stories and how to pick the perfect palette for your next project!

Next week, I’ll announce a new contest where you could be the winner of a fat quarter of each of these colors!   Come on back, we want to spoil you with fabulous, colorful, Scrollscapes fabrics!

Sunset is still my favorite color, and rainbow is second.

TUFFETS!!! Quilt Market Recap #2

IMG_0114This picture is a bit blurry.  I apologize.  I was so excited to meet our friends Sharyn and Lori, I took this photo too quickly and well, you get the (fuzzy) picture 😉

This is Sharyn Cole (pictured on left), our friend and designer of the Tuffet.  Lori College (holding the mini tuffet on the right)  is Store Manager at Thimble Pleasures in Chapel Hill, NC and is friends with Sharyn.

Sharyn made these amazing tuffets for us out of our new Ombre Scroll fabrics we launched at Quilt Market in Houston.  The mini one was made just for us and we fell in love immediately, how can you not?

A tuffet is an upholstered stool, like a small ottoman.  They are so chic!

Sharyn’s passion is making tuffets.  She started her own business called “Tuffet Source”.  Her imaginative creations are lovely.  I cannot get over the different variations of tuffets in her gallery.  It is kind of amazing to see!  I hope you stop by her site and check it out, I will put her link at the bottom of the blog.  Her passion shines through in her work. It is always so wonderful to meet someone who enjoys their work so much and is so generous to share their creativity and passion with others.  THANK YOU SHARYN!!!

In our office here, we have to say TUFFET with a loud and proud voice!  When I first spoke with Sharyn on the phone, my co-worker noticed I was yelling TUFFET with such gusto and excitement.   It’s kind of the only way to say it now… Anyway, we are super excited, can’t you tell?

Finally, before I go, I wanted to let you know that we are going to be following our

“Traveling Tuffet”

on her adventure around the country.  Our regional sales managers will take turns hosting our very own mini-tuffet and it will be exciting to see where the journey takes her.  Stay tuned… find out where she is heading next!!!

QT is preparing for Quilt Market Fall 2015!!!

International Quilt Market… it’s happening… in a Month!!!   The countdown begins and we are a tad busy!   If you are unfamiliar, Quilt Market is like THE event for shop owners to get together, get inspired and buy for their stores.  Everything from fabric, to patterns, to supplies and even software for quilt designing is exhibited.  It’s overwhelming, in a good way!

Imagine rows and rows of beautiful fabrics and projects and all the thread and accessories you can imagine in one place.  For us, it’s our “Oscars” or “Super Bowl” or “Insert big event that is both exhilarating and exhausting” here.  Twice a year, we travel to market and while there is no trophy or acceptance speech, the satisfaction of showing our latest and greatest fabrics and ideas while interacting with customers is our reward.

After Quilt Market, there is a Quilt festival where talented artists submit their amazing work to be shown off and hopefully, win a prize.   That alone can be so inspiring and I often look at the projects in awe of the time and passion dedicated to this craft.  The festival is open to the public, however, the convention is for shop owners and industry professionals only.

In the weeks leading up, I will make sure to include you in some of the preparations we are making.  Our fantastic team here is dedicated to making this a success.  We are like Santa’s elves!

Here are some pictures from our prep work.  While we work year-round, the months leading up to the fall and spring markets are nothing short of BUSY!!! I am glad we can take a minute to share what is going on with you!
