Last week we gave thanks and while it’s important to always be thankful and appreciative, it’s even more important to give back! We were inspired by the idea of “Giving Tuesday” where it’s now customary to follow up on Thanksgiving and Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday with paying it forward and remembering to be generous and charitable.
Our Facebook giveaway this week was based on learning more about what our friends of QT did to give back while sharing their talent and love of fabric. We’ve already selected the winner but we were thrilled with the response of quilters and sewists showing their desire to support charities. We wanted to share that here! Giving Tuesday Post
Here are just a few excerpts from the post which touched our hearts… The generosity of time and resources from our friends is inspiring!
Emily Foerster I grew up going to Shriner’s Hospital for Children and when you have surgery there they always give you a small quilt and stuffed animal to make you feel more comfortable going into surgery. I would love to donate some quilts to them to help make the children feel as safe as I did when I got my quilt.
Kareemah Hamdan I’ve made one Quilt of Valor with two friends and can’t wait to make more. I have a stack of baby quilts for the hospital preemie unit made and easy for delivery. And this past weekend one of my best friends and I made flannel and fleece sleeping pads for shelter dogs.
Becky Keizer Our Guild makes placemats and tea cozies for Meals on Wheels, Fidget Quilts for the Assisted Living Homes, Quilts for the transition home and then there’s a quilt donation section that divides quilts among multiple groups among our community. We also make pillowcases and gift bags and fill them with items for the youth at a local home for their Christmas gifts.
Shelly Sandy Whenever I take a quilting class, rather than fret over picking fabric for an unfamiliar pattern, I make the quilt in red, white and blue fabrics from my stash and plan on donating to the veterans hospital. That way I am sure to finish it!
How wonderful! Here are some fabric collections that QT developed in the spirit of giving and reflects our support of great causes such as the above.
These little prints are great to incorporate into your project/s. Awareness ribbons have become an icon that shows supports and represents your favorite cause. Different colors are designated for various charities and groups. While not every color can be represented, the major ones are available and the ribbon icon itself can be integrated into any project!

Kick Heart Disease!: This collection is by Leslie Moak Murray for QT.
10% of the proceeds go to the American Heart Association. We ❤ it!
Dan Morris for QT -these patriotic prints pack a lot of pride!
Here is one of a few of the patriotic collections that QT is proud to offer. Many of you commented on how you participate in the Quilts of Valor program. This foundation has presented over 150 thousand quilts to service men and women. Wow!
There are so many more ways to give back…
We have worked with Ryan’s Case for Smiles in the past and it is an amazing organization. If you are interested in making pillowcases for kids to brighten their stay at the hospital, this is a wonderful option.
I was recently at my local veterinarian office with Zazz (our Wonder Cat) and saw flyers seeking pillowcase donations. The staff use the pillowcases as covers for the cage bedding as they are easier to clean and change out. Another fab-tastic way to help while having fun doing something you love to do…

We love what we do and it is especially fulfilling to see how our passion for fabric can brighten the days of our customers and those they love and support. Let’s keep up the “Giving Tuesday” mentality ALL… YEAR… LONG!
