Giving Back

Last week we gave thanks and while it’s important to always be thankful and appreciative, it’s even more important to give back!   We were inspired by the idea of “Giving Tuesday” where it’s now customary to follow up on Thanksgiving and Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday with paying it forward and remembering to be generous and charitable.

Our Facebook giveaway this week was based on learning more about what our friends of QT did to give back while sharing their talent and love of fabric.  We’ve already selected the winner but we were thrilled with the response of quilters and sewists showing their desire to support charities.   We wanted to share that here!  Giving Tuesday Post

Here are just a few excerpts from the post which touched our hearts…  The generosity of time and resources from our friends is inspiring!

Emily Foerster I grew up going to Shriner’s Hospital for Children and when you have surgery there they always give you a small quilt and stuffed animal to make you feel more comfortable going into surgery. I would love to donate some quilts to them to help make the children feel as safe as I did when I got my quilt.

Kareemah Hamdan I’ve made one Quilt of Valor with two friends and can’t wait to make more. I have a stack of baby quilts for the hospital preemie unit made and easy for delivery. And this past weekend one of my best friends and I made flannel and fleece sleeping pads for shelter dogs.

Becky Keizer  Our Guild makes placemats and tea cozies for Meals on Wheels, Fidget Quilts for the Assisted Living Homes, Quilts for the transition home and then there’s a quilt donation section that divides quilts among multiple groups among our community. We also make pillowcases and gift bags and fill them with items for the youth at a local home for their Christmas gifts.

Shelly Sandy Whenever I take a quilting class, rather than fret over picking fabric for an unfamiliar pattern, I make the quilt in red, white and blue fabrics from my stash and plan on donating to the veterans hospital. That way I am sure to finish it!

Ribbons of Hope:

These little prints are great to incorporate into your project/s.   Awareness ribbons have become an icon  that shows supports and represents your favorite cause.  Different colors are designated for various charities and groups.  While not every color can be represented, the major ones are available and the ribbon icon itself can be integrated into any project!

Here is one of a few of the patriotic collections that QT is proud to offer.   Many of you commented on how you participate in the Quilts of Valor program.  This foundation has presented over 150 thousand quilts to service men and women.  Wow!

There are so many more ways to give back…

We have worked with Ryan’s Case for Smiles in the past and it is an amazing organization.  If you are interested in making pillowcases for kids to brighten their stay at the hospital, this is a wonderful option.

Project Linus is another resource.  QT is proud to offer the Peanuts brand fabrics and include project patterns incorporating Project Linus fabrics.

I was recently at my local veterinarian office with Zazz (our Wonder Cat) and saw flyers seeking pillowcase donations.  The staff use the pillowcases as covers for the cage bedding as they are easier to clean and change out.  Another fab-tastic way to help while having fun doing something you love to do…

QT Quilts of Valor Challenge 2016!

On the heels of last week’s patriotic themed blog and as a nod to the upcoming Memorial Day remembrance, we are proud to share with you the Quilts of Valor Challenge of 2016!

We were thrilled when HQMS approached us to sponsor this wonderful opportunity. QT is proud to show our appreciation for the Quilts of Valor organization and more importantly, for the “service members and veterans touched by war”.

This year’s challenge featured the Be Strong Be Brave fabric collection by Home Front Girl™ for QT.  The quilts will be donated to the Quilts of Valor Foundation and there are $800 in cash awards for the winners!

Quilts are being showcased at this week’s Home Machine & Sewing Show in Salt Lake City, Utah.   This show is a “premier consumer exhibition and educational conference for all machine quilters, embroiderers and those love to sew!”  Sounds informative & fun!

Here are images of the entries; 23 quilts were made, that means 23 quilts will be donated!  What an incredible gift and show of support by these talented quilters!

Long May She Wave… Happy President’s Day!

We are proud to be Americans and at this time of year, we have President’s Day as a national holiday to celebrate our country’s history and honor our forefathers!

February 22 is George Washington’s birthday – our first President of the United States and an icon of our American history.  What better way to salute our presidents than with this patriotic collection, “Long May She Wave” by Ivy Lane for QT.  The flags are depicted in a panel that reflects the stages of our country’s progress.  This is a  great tribute to our country’s history.


Also, we have a project on our website using these fabrics.   It was designed with the “Quilt of Valor” guidelines in mind.   For more information about this great program,  click here.

Here are a couple of pictures showing our fabric in front of the historic waterfall at our old mill building.  We love to go take a stroll over to it when we have a chance!  Great photo op!

Whenever I think of Presidents, I think of this little cutie, Macey!  She is sassy, smart and passionate (all at the age of 5!)… a perfect combination for a future president (let’s hope)  She happens to love learning and knows a lot about our Presidential history.  Enjoy this cute clip of her on the Ellen show!

Our company has been in existence since 1807 – Thomas Jefferson was President at the time we started.  How amazing is that?  I am excited to see what our future holds!
